Eric's Tech Noir

"All of those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain."

- Roy Batty in "Blade Runner"

Let me introduce myself.

My name is Eric R. Goedken. I am a post-doctoral researcher in the Molecular and Cell Biology Dept. at the University of California at Berkeley in the Kuriyan lab.

I have been attracted to science my entire life, and I hope to serve mankind via my efforts in biochemistry. Well, either that, or become one of those mad scientists who says, "Fools, I'll destroy them all!"
Pictured above is the molecule I spend a lot of time thinking about. The clamp loader from E. coli is an protein complex that places a circular processivity clamp around DNA.  Clamp loader activity is essential for replication of the genomes of all organisms.

The Early Years

In Dec 2000, I  completed my PhD thesis in Prof. Susan Marqusee's laboratory on the effect on metal ion cofactors on the function and folding of ribonuclese H (pictured above).

In May 1995, I completed a BS with honors in molecular biology at the University Of Wisconsin-Madison. There I was involved in the research of transcriptional regulation of genes by estrogen in Prof. Jack Gorski's laboratory.

I grew up on a dairy farm in rural West Central Wisconsin near the serene town of Pigeon Falls (population 313), and I went to high school in the slightly larger neighboring town of Whitehall, WI at Whitehall Memorial High in Trempealeau County.

Null Device

I'm in an electro-pop band called Null Device with releases from Nilaihah Records.

Lyrical Musings

Here are some of my attempts to put the awful goodness of life into words. Some of these have been used as lyrics for Null Device.
